What We Need
We’re looking for an experienced technical writer with exceptional communication, writing, and critical thinking skills for project-based work. Candidates should be comfortable writing, revising, and desktop publishing in Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Exceptional candidates will have proposal writing experience. SharePoint, Google Workspace, and plain language experience is preferred but not essential. A basic understanding of content management principles is also valuable. We will test your technical and proposal writing skills and check references.
Expectations
- Deadline-driven. Our business is fast-paced with many quick-turnaround projects running at once. We expect our team members to meet our productivity guidelines and always deliver on time.
- Up for a challenge. We work on a variety of projects, and you’ll need to get up to speed quickly on topics that are likely unfamiliar to you. We want a technical writer who enjoys the challenge of taking complex or technical information and rewriting it to be actionable and easy to understand.
- Flexible and dynamic. Can you play the part of a chameleon? We are often working side by side with clients and subject matter experts and need to follow their distinct processes and procedures. We want people who can adapt to different work environments and who enjoy working with all types of personalities.
- Proactive and communicative. Our work naturally ebbs and flows, so we offer flexible schedules and work arrangements. Because our work is virtual or on-site with a client, you won’t have someone looking over your shoulder and micromanaging your work. Every project has a mentor and a project leader, so you won’t be left on your own, but we do expect a level of self-management. We plan on and expect collaboration and communication on every project.
- Committed to quality. McMul is proud of the work we do, and we want you to take pride in it too. We want someone who is not afraid to draft, edit, revise, and repeat, as well as regularly re-review completed documentation to maintain accuracy and relevance.
About the Position

“We turned to McKinnon‑Mulherin for on-site technical writing, editing, and desktop publishing services.
Your writer was brutal on editing our work, but she was right on every edit she made.
The guide now reads much, much better, and we are very grateful for what she did.”
