As a small, women-owned business, we know what it means to be both scrappy and consultative. Our team brings a variety of skill sets to diverse projects with a unifying purpose to bring clarity to a cluttered world. For more than 25 years, we’ve done just that by letting these values guide us.

QUALITY

Consistently deliver excellent writing, editing, and design.

FLEXIBILITY

Trust our team to know how, when, and where they do their best work.

SUSTAINABILITY

Steadily guide a profitable, environmentally conscious business.

COMMUNITY

Our Team

Writers, editors, designers, and project managers. McMul hires W-2 employees—not contract writers or freelance editors—so every person placed on your project has been tested, trained, and mentored. And every team member is backed by a deep pool of additional resources if you need to quickly scale up.

Paige Frame
Paige Frame President
The luck of the Irish brought Paige to McMul on St. Patrick’s Day 2008. Pickier than any client, she pushes the team to consistently deliver their best work.
Rob Brebbia
Rob Brebbia VP of Finance & Accounting
As the self-described bean counter at McMul, Rob helps keep us in the green. Despite the pun of his name, we’ve trusted him to safeguard our profits since 1997.
Ted Twinting
Ted Twinting Director of Sales & Marketing
If there’s a person Ted can’t talk to, he hasn’t met them yet. He’s easily excited (think golden retriever), but he’s just as sincerely invested in connecting people and helping them succeed.
Steven Clark
Steven Clark Operations Manager
As Walt Disney said, “There’s no magic in magic. It’s all in the details.” Steven is tracking hundreds of things behind the scenes to keep our show running smoothly—just like magic!
Jennifer Hughes
Jennifer Hughes Manager of Editing & Excellence
This three-time limerick contest winner is known for her clever prose, which makes her an excellent marketing writer. She’s been impressing McMul clients with her writing and editing since 2015.
Synthia Clark
Synthia Clark Head of Projects
For another picture of Synthia, look up “efficient” in the dictionary. She adeptly balances her instructional design expertise with managing our projects team, making sure everyone is in the right role and projects are completed on time and to expectations.
Jessie Lynn Gravatt
Jessie Lynn Gravatt Training Manager
Excelling as an editor then writer then project leader, our Jessie-of-all-trades amazes us with her always-growing skillset. This growth mindset—and a smart move to get her master’s degree in adult education—makes her the perfect training manager for McMul, inspiring our diverse team to keep their skills sharp.
Jennifer Pennington
Jennifer Pennington Project Manager
Extreme dedication is what gets Jenn up at 4 a.m. for international client meetings. Queen of managing calls, schedules, and personalities, Jenn is an ideal keep-your-cool project manager.
Deborah Moeller
Deborah Moeller Senior Writer & Editor
Having been with McMul since 2005, Deb has mentored nearly every editor on our current team. She is as good at carefully explaining style decisions as she is at matching a client’s tone.
Brianne Sorensen
Brianne Sorensen Marketing Communications Specialist
Brianne is so proactive, she might just be a mind reader. Whether writing a blog, managing a schedule, or organizing a contacts database, she impressively delivers with little direction.
David Wilkinson
David Wilkinson Instructional & Graphic Designer
Long-time graphic designer and more recent instructional designer, Dave is skilled at listening to client concerns and creating the right graphic or training interaction for the need.

Careers

Are you picturing your face here? We are always looking for diverse candidates to grow our pool of talented writers, editors, instructional designers, graphic designers, and project managers.

Culture

Working exclusively from home offices doesn’t stop our team from building strong relationships with each other. We love to get together, whether that’s to share industry knowledge over a potluck, to meet each other’s dogs on a video call, or to discuss a good book with the McMul Bookworms.

Our team lives up to our Community objective and is quick to support each other, learn from each other, and step up when someone needs help. Most importantly, they lean on each other’s differences—delighting in the stretch and growth that comes from diverse perspectives and insights.

Benefits

Flexible schedules and working from home always top the list of our employees’ favorite benefits. We prioritize work-life balance, whether that includes kids, travel, or biking during your lunch break.
McMul also offers these competitive benefits:

  • Paid time off for salaried and project-based employees

  • Health and dental insurance

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Paid volunteer and professional development time

Expectations

Thanks to our proven testing and vetting, we consistently hire the best writers, editors, and instructional designers. Those who thrive at McMul are deadline driven, scrappy, and proactive. Our employees can jump into fast-paced projects, flexibly accept job assignments, and get up to speed quickly on unfamiliar topics.

Most importantly, we expect employees to be quick communicators, meet our productivity guidelines, and deliver high-quality materials on time.

Open Positions

Are you a bright, multitalented writer or designer ready for a new challenge? If McMul seems like it could be the next step in your career, send your résumé and a cover letter to info@mcmul.com to find out what positions are open.

Our History

Our History

On May 20, 1997, Kate Reddy, Regina Davis, and Shauna Bona incorporated McKinnon‑Mulherin and named the company after Kate and Shauna’s moms. Our three founders continue to serve on the company’s board and guide McMul to continued success.

1998–2001. Steady Growth.

Business grew steadily over the next three years as we developed an in-house team of information designers. In 2001, McMul passed the $1 million mark in yearly sales.

2003–2004. Banshee.

We created, developed, and released the web-based training application Banshee, which enabled companies to deliver fast, effective e‑learning to their employees and customers. In 2004, Banshee was the runner-up in Stoel Rives technology awards.

2007. Double-Check.

We created the quick-turnaround online proofreading service Double-Check for projects that need a final proofread from a real person—not a machine.

2010. Virtual Office.

Since inception, we’ve offered telecommuting to employees. In 2010, nearly our whole team was working from home, so we decided to become a completely virtual office. Team members were just as efficient and responsive from home offices, and McMul continued to uphold our objective of workplace flexibility.

2017. New Leadership.

After nine years at McMul, Paige Frame became president of the company just before our 20th anniversary. We continued to build the management team by promoting Madeline Brown to team leader, Steven Clark to operations manager, and Ted Twinting to director of sales and marketing. Founders Kate and Shauna started McKinnon‑Mulherin Consulting.

2018. Coworking Space.

While McMul continued to thrive as a virtual company, several team members wished for more in-person time and a consistent option for client meetings. We found a best-of-both-worlds solution by joining a coworking space at the Work Hive. Our team still works primarily from home, but now we also have a dedicated office space for meetings and collaboration.
